On Wednesday, July 15, Marcia Lindberg, Senior Manager of Underwriting and Fulfillment, will be doing something extraordinary.
She will be rappelling down the Westin Hotel in Edmonton—all 20 storeys. The funds she raises in support of her mission will be donated to Make-A Wish; used to grant wishes to children with life-threatening medical conditions.
Marcia is participating in the Make-a-Wish Rope for Hope, a yearly event that allows volunteers to rappel down a city skyscraper if they raise $1,500. Canadian Western Bank, a partner company of Optimum Mortgage, is the official presenting sponsor this year and will be for the next three years.
Here are a few words from Marcia herself on why she decided to take the– err–plunge.
“I found out about this and thought it was much more interesting and exciting than the typical charity runs that I normally participate in. Make-a-Wish is important to me because of the work they do for children. I think it’s so important that these children have the opportunity to see their wishes granted and I want to help make that happen. They deserve to feel like normal kids.
My goal is to reach $2,500. The trips that the Wish Recipients have requested will require a lot of money so that their families can come too. Because of that, any donation helps.”
Some ‘wish requests’ include:
- Trip to Walt Disney World
- Celebrity meeting
- Trip to a beach resort
- Tour of a specific destination, such as Toyko or Paris
